The Yugoslav Cardiology Society (YCS) was founded on 30 October 1955 in Belgrade by six republic sections, and the founders were academics Vojislav Arnovljević, Božidar Đordević and prof. Čedomil Plavšić. In 1977, the Society changed its name to the Association of Cardiologists of Yugoslavia (ACY).

The first President of the YCS was Vojislav Arnovljević (1895-1989) from 1955 to 1961, and Secretary Tom Štraser from Belgrade. In 1957 they organized the First congress of YCS in Budva and the other in Opatija in 1957.

From 1961 to 1965, the president of YCS was Radovan Ivancic (1913), and Secretary Ivan Mohacek (1921) from Zagreb. The Third Congress of the Society was organized in Opatija in 1961.

In the next four-year term, from 1965 to 1969, the president was firstly Jovan Slavkovic (1906-1966) from Belgrade, after whose tragic death the presidency was taken over by Milan Arsenijevic (1901-1981). At the beginning of his mandate, Slavkovic organized the Fourth Congress of Cardiologists in Korčula in 1965. The fifth congress was organized in 1969, again in Opatija. The Secretary from 1965 to 1969 was Miroslav Kovačević (1920-1999).

Čedomil Plavšić (1902-1987) was the president of the Society in the mandate of 1969-1973. Secretary Zlatko Perman from Opatija, where in 1973 the YCS's Sixth Congress was re-organized.

In the mandate of 1973-1977. President of the YCS was Branko Volavšek (1913-1997), secretary Marjan Jerše from Ljubljana, who hosted the Seventh Congress of Cardiologists in 1977.

In the period from 1977 to 1981, the President of the Yugoslav National Assembly was Esbrejar Sarajlić (1923-1980), a pediatrician from Sarajevo, and after his death, Nurudin Numić (1924-1994). The secretary for the entire mandate was Miodrag Popadic. In 1981, Saraevo hosted the Eighth Congress of Cardiologists.

The next president of the Society, in the mandate of 1981-1985, was Radovan Percinovski (1922), and the secretaries Zoran Sajkov (1933-1996) and Lazar Srbinovski (1933) from Skopje. In 1985, the Ninth Congress of Cardiologists was held in Skopje.

The tenth congress was held in 1989 in the Sava Center in Belgrade. The President of the CSS in this mandate (1985-1989) was Srećko Nedeljković (1923-2011), and Secretary Aleksandar Milošević (1932-2015), both from Belgrade.

From 1989 to 1991, the president of the CSY was Vladimir Goldner (1933) and the secretary Šime Mihatov from Zagreb. However, due to the events that began the process of the decommissioning of the SFRY, on October 7, 1991, they left not only the Association of doctors of Yugoslavia, but also the Association of Cardiologists of Yugoslavia, which was left by other republic sections in the following 1992. At the Society of Cardiologists only the sections of Serbia and Montenegro remained.

Despite the collapse of the SFRY, CSY remained a member of the World (WHF) and the European Cardiology Association (ESC). In the 1992-1997 term. The President of the CSY was Aleksandar Milošević (1932), and Secretary Miodrag Ostojić (1946) from Belgrade. The seventeenth session of the Congress of Cardiologists was held in 1995 at the Sava Center in Belgrade.

In the following, since then a two-year mandate (1997-1999), the president of the CSY was Ljiljana Perovic (1942) from Podgorica, and secretary Zoran Marsenic (1947) from Berane. The host to the Twelfth Congress, held in 1998, was Herceg Novi.

The next president was Djurica Stojsic (1936) from 1999 to 2001. and Secretary Svetozar Srdic (1958) from Novi Sad. The 4th Congress of CSY was held in Novi Sad in 2001.

In the 2001-2003 term the President of CSY was academician Miodrag Ostojic (1946), and secretary Branko Beleslin (1964) from Belgrade. At a session held in March 2003, it was decided that the Association changed its name to the CArdiology society of Serbia and Montenegro (CSSCG). That same year, from October 12 to 15, the Fourth Congress of Cardiologists was held in Belgrade.

The next president of the Cardiology society of Serbia and Montenegro (2003-2005) was Dr. Zoran Marsenić, and Secretary Ana Popović. After the dissolution of the state union of Serbia and Montenegro, the Society changed its name again and since 2005 it is called the Cardiology society of Serbia. CSS is a member of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the World Heart Federation (WHF) .

In the next two mandates (2005-2007 and 2007-2009), the President of the Society was academician prof. Dr. Miodrag Ostojic, and Assistant Secretary. Dr. Branko Beleslin. In this period, the Society modernized and redefined its workgroups in line with those existing in the European Society of Cardiologists. At that time, ten branches of the CSS were formed.

From 2009 to 2011, the president of Cardiology society of Serbia was prof. Dr. Zoran Vasiljevic Pokrajcic (1947), Secretary was Asist. Dr. Predrag Mitrović, and his successor in the position of President of the CSS was prof. Milan Nedeljkovic (1957). The Society's secretary was Dr Dragan Lovic. In this period, further modernization was carried out: the necessary statutory changes were made to the enlargement of the Management board. The members' remuneration, to the extent that it was multiplying, was tripled by the territorial principle (Belgrade, Vojvodina and central and southern Serbia), one vice president was in charge of the magazine and one for working groups and subsidiaries. Since 2011, instead of the Journal of Cardiology launched by the Cardiology society of Yugoslavia (the last editor, Prof. Dr. Velibor Obradovic), the Heart and Blood Vessels was started. The new magazine comes out quarterly, its first editor-in-chief was academician Miodrag Ostojic, and the executive director of the doc. Dr. Branko Beleslin. The next three congresses (XVI, XVII and XVIII) of the Cardiology society of Serbia were held in Belgrade, at the Hotel M.

From 2013 to 2015, the president of the Cardiology society of Serbia was prof. Zoran Perisic, MD, from Nis, and assistant secretary. Dr. Milan Dobrić. The current President of the Society (2015-2017) is prof. Dr. Branko Beleslin, Secretary Assistant. Dr. Milan Dobrić, and the future president is prof. Dr. Ana Đorđević Dikić.

Starting from 2005, the Working group on Interventional Cardiology organizes annual meetings (with the exception of 2012 and 2013), which have grown out of the international symposium BASICS in a meeting related to invasive and interventional cardiology. In the period from 2005 to 2011, they were organized under the leadership of Academician Miodrag Ostojić, 2014-2015. prof. Dr. Milan Nedeljkovic, and 2016-2017. prof. Dr. Siniša Stojković. Also, in 2015, the Working Group for Imaging held its first CIS Congress in Belgrade, at the Intercontinental Hotel, under the leadership of prof. Dr. Jelena Stepanovic, who was its president at the time.

In 2015, together with cardiologists from the Republic of Srpska, the Cardiology society of Serbia established the 34th branch of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and appointed its first governor prof. Dr. Milan Nedeljkovic. In 2016, this branch organized its first congress called PRACSIS in Belgrade.
