- Saturated fatty acids should include <10% of total energy intake, with a substitute for polyunsaturated fatty acids
- Trans-fats reduced to a complete minimum and <1% of total energy input
- <5g of salt per day
- 30-45g of fibrous foods daily, preferably from integral grains
- ≥200g of fruit per day (2-3 servings)
- ≥200g of vegetables a day (2-3 servings)
- Fish 2x per week
- 30g of unsalted nuts
- Reduce alcohol to 2 glasses per day for men and one for women
